Warm as summer sunshine, real as the truth, intimate as a long overdue visit between old friends … such is a Jonathan Edwards concert.  Four decades into a stellar career of uncompromising musical integrity, the man simply delivers, night after night – songs of passion, songs of insight, songs of humor, all rendered in that pure and powerful tenor which, like fine wine, has only grown sweeter with age.
This is one veteran performer who is neither grizzled nor nostalgic.  These days Jonathan Edwards, a vital and relevant artist in today’s folk and Americana scenes, is most likely to be found on the road with longtime accompanist Stuart Schulman on bass, piano, fiddle, and vocals and Taylor Armerding, formerly of Northern Lights, on mandolin and high-tenor vocals.  “I’ve been … doing what I do best, which is playing live in front of people.  I’ve been concentrating on that and loving it,” he says. 
An artist who measures his success by his ability to attract and take good care of an audience for four decades, Jonathan maintains that it is the feedback he receives after his shows that keeps him going.  “It is really gratifying to hear [someone say], ‘Your stuff has meant a lot to me over the years.’”
The “stuff” he’s referring to is a highly respected repertoire that includes such classics as “Honky Tonk Stardust Cowboy,” “Sometimes,” “One Day Closer,” “Don’t Cry Blue,” “Emma,”  “Everybody Knows Her,” “Athens County,” and everyone’s favorite ode to putting a good buzz on, “Shanty.”  And then, of course, there’s the anthemic “Sunshine (Go Away Today),” that fierce proclamation of protest and independence that resonated with thousands and thousands of frustrated and angry young men and women when it was first released in 1971.  Almost 40 years later, at show after show, the song continues to be embraced by faithful followers and new fans alike.
Since 1971, Jonathan has released 15 albums, including Blue Ridge, his standard-setting collaboration with bluegrass favorites the Seldom Scene, and Little Hands, his collection of children’s songs, which was honored with a National Library Association award. 
As for album #16, Jonathan says, “Young people that are getting back to the land and trying to get off the power grid encourage me.  My next studio album will reflect some of those themes.”  With that in mind, it’s no surprise that he closes each night’s show with these heartfelt lyrics:

Calling all dreamers and optimistic fools
Don't let go of your dream, make it now, make it all come true
If you believe in a brighter day
I know we can find our way
To this island, in a starry ocean
Poetry in motion, this island earth
A beautiful oasis for all human races
The only home that we know, this island earth.

Kate was born in Boston and grew up with her four brothers in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where her father was Dean of the medical school at the University of North Carolina. Her mother, Trudy, was a New England native and had received training as a lyric soprano in Boston.

As a member of one of the most famous musical families in America, Taylor and her four brothers, Alex, Livingston, Hugh and James, have all enjoyed some measure of success as performing and recording artists, starting in the late 1960s. Kate, Livingston and James are still recording and have active touring careers; Hugh owns the Outermost Inn on Martha's Vineyard; Alex is deceased. James Taylor's career has been particularly successful.

Taylor formed her first band at age 15 and had her first record deal with Atlantic Records four years later. Produced by her manager at the time, Peter Asher, her debut album Sister Kate was released in 1971. Her second album, the 1978 self-titled Kate Taylor,[1] was produced by her brother James and Lew Hahn on Columbia Records. It was well received, and produced another charting hit, "It's in His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)", done as a duet with James. It peaked at 49 on the Billboard charts.

The following year Taylor released It's in There, produced by Barry Beckettat the famed Muscle Shoals studios. The label did not promote the album well and it did not achieve its expected success. After this release Taylor took a break from the music industry to raise her two young daughters, Elizabeth and Aretha. She continued to perform and contribute to various projects, including an appearance on the Mark Heard tribute album Orphans of God and as a back-up singer for various other artists.

In 2003 she released Beautiful Road, a particularly personal album, dedicated to her manager and husband, Charlie Witham, who fell ill while she was recording the album and died shortly before its release. It received high praise, including 3 stars from Rolling Stone magazine, who called it "a heartfelt folk rock gem."

In 2003, Taylor resumed her touring career and now plays regularly in New York City, New England and the South. She was a featured performer at the 2008 Newport Folk Festival in Newport, RI.

In 2005, Taylor released her first live album, Kate Taylor Live at The Cutting Room, a recording of a live concert made the previous year.

In July 2009, Kate Taylor released her first album of all original songs, entitled "Fair Time!" and in September 2009 Kate and Film Truth productions released a documentary DVD called "Tunes from the Tipi and Other Songs from Home." The film traces the Taylor family's and Kate's musical history and journey from Chapel Hill to Martha's Vineyard.

jmWhen blues legend James Montgomery plays the harmonica, he "brings it on home". Whether it's recording with Kid Rock, sitting in with Gregg Allman, or fronting his hot band of thirty years, Montgomery plays with authority. While growing up in Detroit he learned first-hand from the masters - James Cotton, John Lee Hooker, and Jr. Wells - at the legendary "Chessmate." Over the years, he's carried on in the tradition and continues to be a vital presence in Blues as one of the most dynamic performers on the scene.

In 1970, while attending Boston University, Montgomery formed the James Montgomery Band. His inimitable (oh yeah, he majored in English) harmonica playing combined with his incredibly energetic live shows led to the band's quick ascension on the New England music scene. Within two years, the James Montgomery band was among the hottest acts in Boston along with J. Geils and Aerosmith, and they were quickly signed to a multi-album deal with Capricorn Records.

Since that time, James has recorded six albums. His first, "First Time Out" has been remastered and re-released by MRG/Capricorn. Other include "James Montgomery Band" on Island Records which was number nine on Billboard's national playlist, "Duck Fever" with members of the David Letterman Band, "Live Trax," with the Uptown Horns (the Rolling Stones' horn section), and his release on Tone-Cool, "The Oven Is On."

Montgomery has toured with many major artists, including Aerosmith, Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Springsteen, the Allman Brothers, Steve Miller and others. He has jammed on stage with B.B.King, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Jr. Wells, James Cotton, Charlie Daniels, Bonnie Raitt, Greg Allman, Laverne Baker, Patti LaBelle, and Peter Wolf among others, including an impromptu session with Mick Jagger at New York's "Trax".

bmBruce Marshall: A Blue Collar Musician with a Remarkable Career

A childhood surrounded by musical peers, profoundly stirred by The Beatles’ first performance on Ed Sullivan, and quickly thrust into a musical career six short months after graduating high school - it is no shock that Bruce Marshall has devoted his life to music. Seventeen years and over seven thousand live performances later, the hard toiling career musician continues to produce and perform.

Gaining considerable attention throughout New England as a member of Bruce Marshall and the Clue, Marshall’s musical career picked up enormous momentum when he joined Tony Caldwell of the Marshall Tucker Band to play a national tour alongside Lynyrd Skynyrd and Charlie Daniels. “It was at that point I felt I had hit the next level,” commented Marshall,  “We were sponsored by Gibson and playing a huge national tour with Lynyrd Skynyrd. That was big thing for me as a local musician.”

In 1991 the native northerner assembled his own project, The Bruce Marshall Group, which has released six albums since their conception and continues to tour actively. Soon after establishing the BMG, Marshall united with James Montgomery to form the high energy acoustic duo, Montgomery and Marshall - a side project that continues to attract a great deal of national attention as well as two live album releases.
Marshall’s career spanning labors have netted some truly remarkable performances, allowing him to share the stage with acts such as The Beach Boys, Charlie Daniels, and Steven Tyler. “Opening for Gregg Allman was big. He laid the blueprint for my style of guitar,” said Marshall, “And opening for B.B. King on his 70th birthday, was just a total goose-bumps experience.”

The blue collar artist generates continued success from both his talent and passion as a musician, as well as his work ethic, “I’ve been very lucky,” said Marshall “I did 280 shows last year, but I get to do a lot of national gigs because I’m willing to go out and play a solo show. That is what has kept me interested and enthused about my business. You get into a grind with steady gigs and it’s a lot of work, but when you get that occasional national show it just lifts you up.”

His shoulder constantly to the wheel, Marshall has already begun writing music for his next album and has lined up a host of solo and group performance shows.
